In the ghetto or just a city?
Our car was broken into a few weeks ago. The window was smashed to smithereens. Of course what they stole was worth $200, just below the $250 deductible. Then over the course of 2 months we’ve heard gun shots on multiple occasions. Then today we get a notice from our apartment complex that there was an attempted armed robbery in the parking lot at 6:30. That’s after work. People are...

New Year, here I come!
I generally hate the year-end round ups. I do, however, embrace the promise of New Year’s resolutions. Here are mine:
Rock my first semester of grad school. Get at least a few more scholarships.
Eat healthier (even with my man’s anti-veggie stance).
Exercise at least 4 times per week.
Wash my face more frequently.
Keep the house tidier during the work week.
Find a summer job to...
Christmas time
I really enjoy being able to see my bestie when I go visit my boyfriend’s parents. It’s such a wonderful blessing of proximity.
I also got to see a good friend who has been working in Asia for ages.
I start grad school shortly after my 28th birthday. Eek!

Weekend hiking plans
It’s Monday. I’m thinking about the weekend. I want to get out and explore in the fall weather and hike until I’m exhausted.
Some ideas for hikes near Charlotte:
Crowders Mountain State Park
Waterfall Hike at South Mountains? Yes, please.
But really, this article does an excellent job summarizing the options. here

That itchy wanderlust
The urge is rising.
Time is fleeting.
Where will we end up?
Yeah, okay that’s a bit vague. So for a bit of clarification: I’m plotting and exploring options.
I finally, finally, finally know what I want to do with my life. The funny thing is that it’s something I always sort of snickered, brushing the idea aside in earlier times. Now, with a bit more perspective and...

Leavin' on a jetplane
Packed for Germany and tidied up the townhouse. We’re off to try our hand at tennis in the heat. I bet we’ll end up in the pool.

Wedding Weekend (1 of 4) Savannah Edition
We’re going to attend the rehearsal dinner here, 17hundred90.
Then, my friend’s wedding in Greene Square followed by reception at Pink House. I’m excited.
I have tomorrow off and plan to go get a massage to prepare for the festivities. It’ll also be the first wedding I have someone to share it with.

Dear Members of Congress:
Apparently, you did not receive the last memo I sent you. So I am writing again, in the hopes that perhaps you will begin to listen a little more carefully to the vast...

Cookie season
I broke out my shorts today, then went to grab the first batch of Girl Scout cookies. Hello, spring.
Important life thing
I have a Girl Scout cookie connection as of today.
Unfortunately this is not good for the “get-into-bridesmaid-shape” plan.
Valentine's weekend get-away
My valentine rented a cottage on this island only accessible by boat. We’re going for a weekend.
Here’s an article about the local culture, Gullah.
First world priorities
It sort of bothers me that I got more comments on a Facebook status update asking for recommendations to find silver, matte bridesmaid shoes than informative articles about the revolts in Egypt.
Is my friends’ comment frequency on a matter an illustration of how we, as a culture, prioritize our concerns? Or is it just easier?
Lowcountry goodness
The best thing about cold weather: oyster roasts. Steam curls off heaping piles of fresh, roasted oyster on a plywood table. Everyone rolls their sleeves up, digs in with an oyster knife and the juice drips down your chin. Occasionally, you pry open a shell, with great effort, to find pluff mud. You gorge until you feel the sea ebbing in your belly.

Valentine's Day
This will be the first time I’ve had a legitimate Valentine. I am so happy. Today I was surprise by said Valentine at lunch. He told me he’s taking me away to an island the weekend before Valentine’s Day. Here’s where we’ll be
Branching out
I’m officially friends with my boyfriend’s mother on FB.
Discuss.
Ha! It was actually nice to find after a really aggravating 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. day.

Atl fun
At the Hartsfield-Jackson airport, they have this thing called Minute Suites. Cozy little private rooms with tv, bed, etc. Sweet idea if only it were more affordable.
Holiday travel, part one
We’re on our way north to visit the bf’s family this Christmas. The drive is nice and relaxing, even if it is late. Some sort of calm settles over me in the car, seeing cars with Delaware, Florida, South Carolina, New Mexico, etc. tags - all making what I assume is the trek home for the holiday weekend. A Greyhound bus illuminating a Chicago-bound marquee passes us. We switch the ...
